It is indeed true that the sound on the monitor of the DVM-250 is softened when the baby unit is not producing any sound, this is to reduce any noise that may be heard. This is not a malfunction, but a setting.

When the VOX-function is switched on, the DVM-250 will reduce the volume to 0 when the baby unit is silent. At interim check of the volume, the DVM-250 will indicate noise level 0.

As soon as there is enough sound again in the children's room, the DVM-250 will switch back to the preset level.

Try to set the VOX function differently, in order to install everything as desired. The lower the sensitivity, the longer the battery will last.
